In the song "Giving up" by Ingrid Michaelson she sings "I am giving up on half empty glasses and I am giving up on greener grasses." I have always loved that line.
I am giving up on chasing greener grasses with web development. No more building better, faster and finding improvement in my workflow with tools. With the introduction of Claude Code and CoPilot, the work isn't fun anymore.
When I was interviewing for a company I was so interested in, I was asked how I dealt with AI in my workflow. If I had a boner, I lost it right then and there. What a turn off. Yes, I was rejected and I still feel bitter about it. It was done in a very rude and shameful way as well. You may email me if you want to know who it was and how it went.
Back to the point, though. Being a developer was hard to begin with, but now with AI in the mix I can't really see the appeal. I don't want to code with AI. I don't want to work like that anymore. I want to do it myself. I want to figure it out myself.
I am giving up a career in web development. I am giving up on AI, search results powered by AI. I am giving up on constant being fed curated information, having an overloaded brain.
I am returning to figuring it out myself by using DuckDuckGo. I am returning to just enjoying my work by taking my time and devoting good energy to my work. I am writing my own emails and posts. I will fix my own mistakes and use my own faulty brain to figure things out.
